Japanese Education System |
The Japanese school system is based on six years of elementary school, three years of junior high school, three years of high school and four years of university. After nine years of compulsory education in elementary and junior high school, those who wish go on to high school, professional school, junior college or university. In Japan, the new school term begins in April.

Elementary and Junior High School |
Elementary-school students enter at 6 years old and graduate at 12. Junior high-school students enter at 12 and graduate at 15. There are no school and text fees. All school offer lunch. Foreign children do not have to enter, but they are sdmitted according to request.
When requesting admission, come to the Scholl Education Section, Toki Educational Committee (Phone: 54-1111) with passports and alien registration certificates of the subject child/children and parents. |
High School and University |
| There is no set age for entrance to and graduation from high school and university. Entrance examinations are required. Also, high schools require at least a junior high-school education, and universities require at least a high-school education. Contact individual high schools and universities for details. |
Kindergarten |
Kindergarten is for pre-schoolers who are five years of age or older.

Nursery |
| A nursery is a children's welfare facility that will look after children in place of guardians who cannot take care of them becauseofillness, work or other circumstances. Children over three months old who do not go to school yet are qualified. Foreign children can also enter. There are nurseries that educate handicapped children, overtime nursing, temporary nursing and long time nursing. For details, contact the Children and Family Section, Welfare Department, Toki City Hall or individual nurseries. |
